February Technical Meeting

"Pookie" - Everything You Need to Know About Sealants

Join us on February 18th for dinner and a presentation by Dave Kimball of PROSOCO. Dave Kimball (34 years in the Sealant Industry, now a PROSOCO employee) will speak frankly about Pookie and provide a basic understanding of how sealants work, how it should be installed and what goes wrong. Kimball will start with the ABC's of sealants from the perspective of both a chemist and a seasoned troubleshooter. The discussion will cover sealant chemistry and why it is important to you (not all sealants are created equal), as well as the “goal in life” of a sealant and what it means to be able to handle "life in a joint". Other topics will include: important sealant properties, the Big Six of Sealant installation and why each is important, staining of sensitive substrates, and why sealants fail. Kimball prefers this to be an open discussion within the framework of sealants in the commercial construction world so bring your questions and any current sealant issues you may have for discussion.
*Pookie – a fun term used to describe the sealant itself or its many uses.

About the Speaker

After 34 years as a sealant technical specialist and chemist at a major silicone sealant company, Dave Kimball has retired and started anew with PROSOCO, Inc., in the role of Technical Specialist with the Building Envelop Group covering the North Atlantic Region from his office in Long Island City, NY. Formerly trained as a chemist, Dave spent years living in many different parts of the country primarily in a Technical Services role working on Weatherseal, Structural Glazing, and exterior coatings applications. In his new role, Dave is inspired by the new and unique challenges of rough opening preparation and proper air and vapor barrier installation.
